The best sunsets aren’t
the ones that blaze the
brightest. They are the
fickle, the fighters that
battle the clouds and
sound their most beautiful
note for seconds, quickly
missed, never forgotten.

Found the moment
that second of pause
when hours before
i thought i was lost,
thanks to the beauty,
to moments in nature,
thanks for saving my
day, time now unwasted.
#377
Woken from sunlight
kissing my eyeslids
as the ocean chorused and
cheered beside my
new friends from the old islands
and what remained of our midnight
feast, resting peaceful, on an
enormous beach of
cold sweet sand.

It happened again
as the lanterns rose
and the young men
lifted elaborate candlelit
chandeliers impossible
heights on their foreheads
bending, swaying,
suspended bamboo a fickle
balancer between an incredible now
and my old confusing dreams.

Somewhere out there
there’s someone
thinking of you,
watching a spectacular storm
set fire to an unwavering, surreal
sunset, stealing every second,
thought and breath.
Painting their skies, their thoughts
yet still there’s you,
breaking through, competing
against this brilliant, solitary moment,
in the heart of a storm
in the heart of the one.
