The wall,
another beautiful obstacle.
A reminder that you'd have to
be really thoughtful,
and know me really well,
to do such a good job
of getting under my skin
and to pick the scabs
over the wounds that hurt the most.

into the cold water
open my eyes
blink away the cold water

i missed the wave
that carried my friend to the beach
i missed my chance
if only i dared to reach
snow sitting on the sunny sand
my friends laughter stings like prayers
and i sit still gobsmacked
as the watery waves pass by
and by

feeling your sweetest
impression
in echoes i listen
straining for your
inflections
i tree branches
i count the seasons
since you left
i visit your grave
too seldom
unbrave, daunted by
the memories
i don’t seek on my own
