i am both thrilled and terrified to release this. Rituals of Love has been a private project over the last few years. A difficult one, it’s difficult to share my voice- though i’m glad to step from the shadows, ready for it.
Lyrically i try and push myself to make an amalgamation of at least 3 concepts into the songs. Philosophical ideas, perhaps past experiences, fantasy’s, inspiration from characters in films and books, from friend’s lives.
The first single, Throw Yourself to the Bayonets, is a tribute to the Muse. To true love, how i think we all (of course myself) want to be seen, forgiven, and flawed. They’re the words i wish were song to me, the apologies i have- to myself, to the Muse, to love. i hope somewhere, a lyric finds you, dear reader, and it hits home. At it’s core it’s about bravery, the title comes from those courageous souls in the first World War, running over the top, throwing themself towards certain death out of a greater love for humanity, for the all. i think at the very least, we can try to do that in all our relationships, be it friends, family, or romantic partners.
The second is a demo i wrote years ago, on a 4 track recording device in my parents house while on a visit. Obviously my father is a major inspiration, though there's much to be said for all beneath the surface. i hope you’ll dig. i hope you’ll listen often, i hope you’ll share. i look forward to rerecording and expanding the song in future.
Until then, i hope you’ll keep listening, keep reading.
Be excellent to each other,
Wazoo!
